Strava spots: all ten taken. More are on the way!

Strava starts every new app with room for ten explorers. ROVR’s ten spots are now taken, and Strava is reviewing it to allow us to let more people join. The day Strava says yes, I start working through the waiting list, first come, first served.

Get in line

Not the waiting type? Sign up today with Ride with GPS or your GPS files, and plug Strava in later from Settings. Your Strava history can come along today too: ask Strava for your export and upload the zip as it arrives.

ROVR turns your rides, runs and paddles into a map of every tile you have ever been in, then nudges you toward the ones you haven't. It reads them from Strava, from Ride with GPS, or from files you upload. Nothing to install.

What you are agreeing to

This is a beta. It is one person's project. It will break sometimes, and may stay broken until I can fix it.

No other rider can see your rides, tracks, ride names or map. While the site is still in beta, I can: I look at your dashboard (rides, tiles, numbers) when fixing a problem, and every time goes in a log you can ask to see.

There is a scoreboard, which is worth knowing about before you agree. It shows everyone's numbers (tile, distance and climbing records) side by side. A zoomed-out shared map MAY follow: cities, suburbs and big neighborhoods (never a street). You are on it unless you switch off in Settings. It is on by default on purpose, because I want this website to grow. Beside your numbers are your initials, worked out from the name on your Strava or Ride with GPS account if you connected one. You may change them to anything you like. Coming off the scoreboard also stops you seeing anybody else's numbers. The most it will ever show is those numbers and that map: never a ride, a route, a ride name or a date.

Your rides are added to ROVR in up to three ways, and you choose which. Connect Strava or Ride with GPS, and ROVR reads your activities on those services, private ones included. Otherwise, you may upload ride files yourself and connect nothing. A ride that arrives twice is counted once, but both copies are kept.

Connecting Strava asks up front for permission to read your activities and to write to them. ROVR writes a few lines at the end of each ride's description: which new tiles that ride got, and what the weather was doing while you were out. Anyone who follows you can read them. These switches are on by default, so others can hear of ROVR. You can switch each one off in the Settings menu. Connecting Ride with GPS gives default Ride with GPS permissions. ROVR uses it to read your trips and, when you ask, to save a route you planned here. It writes nothing to a trip unless you switch that on in Settings.

You can also sign in with an email address and password. This is required if you do not connect Strava or Ride with GPS. ROVR sends that address a link to choose a new password, and only when you ask for one. It sends its occasional emails there only if you ask for them: that is a box of its own, and it stays unticked until you tick it. You can switch them off again in Settings, or from a link in each one.

Your rides and their backups are stored with a commercial cloud computing service located in the EU. Cloudflare sits in front of the website and sees your browser's requests. A commercial email service located in the EU delivers ROVR's email, and sees your address and what each message says. No other company is involved. Your rides are not sold, handed to anybody, or used to train anything.

You can disconnect Strava or Ride with GPS, switch your account off, or delete it, at any time in Settings. Disconnecting also tells that service to take ROVR's permission away at once. Deleting removes your rides, your map and your account right away. One locked copy is kept for thirty days in case it was a mistake, and backup copies take up to four weeks to age out. If you can't sign in, email me and I will do it for you, and respond to you when it is gone.

That same email address is also the support desk: anything broken, anything you want to see or have a copy of. You can find it in the panel under Settings, but not on public pages.

Ride with GPS will ask you whether ROVR may see your activities.
